Captain Dylan Hubbard, Co-Owner and Vice President of Hubbard's Marina, and avid near shore and offshore angler. I am a fourth generation, born and raised, florida native raised on the back deck of our private charter and party fishing boats here at Hubbard's Marina. Nothing beats a day on the water, I bought my first boat when I was nine years old after saving up for two years straight doing anything to earn that boat. I started out fishing backwaters and bayous before learning the big Boca Ceiga bay and north shore of Tampa Bay around Tierre Verde. Then Once I turned twelve I got my first job on an offshore private charter fishing boat and never looked back inshore, by age 16 I was able to start working on the larger party boats on longer trips. At 18 I started working the longer range trips and fell in love with the long range blue water style trips. I took a brief period off from fishing in saltwater when I moved away to Orlando for four years at UCF, but after just a few months the 'itch' to go fishing took over and my roommates convinced me to try something I personally never saw myself enjoying... Bass fishing freshwater ponds and lakes for largemouth. It was a lot lighter tackle than I was used to and a completely different approach, it was weird not being used to it as well. However, I quickly got 'hooked' on that type of fishing as well and between that and the frequent weekend trips back to the tampa bay area for occasional offshore trips that held me over till I was able to move home and get back to full time saltwater fishing offshore. Then when I was home from school I started full time in my dream job, full time deckhand on the Hubbard's Marina fishing boats at the age of 21. By the age of 22 I was ready to get my captains ticket and move into the wheelhouse, but also didn't want to leave the deck where I felt the action was. Unfortunately before I had the chance to sit at the helm, I had a serious back injury that set back my plans and dream of becoming a captain. Due to that, I had some serious surgery and a long road of recovery. During recovery unable to do 'serious' offshore fishing like I had fallen in love with I was regulated to fishing the dock and near shore shorter trips. However, I stayed in touch with the industry by becoming involved in our online marketing at Hubbard's Marina and an office manager. Also, I started doing seminars all over the area to whoever, or wherever they would have me. After two years, I became restless and ready to get back on the water and started on the road of getting my captain's license. By the end of 2016 I had completed the final part of my 100 ton masters captains license requirements and waited for my ticket in the mail. Just after my 26th birthday I received my license and now work as a captain and vice president of Hubbard's Marina my family's company that has been fishing local waters since 1928! My great grandfather started our company from row boats with cane poles and I look forward to continuing that family tradition of taking our fishing friends on a boat for some 'reel' fishing fun on the gulf of mexico! I plan to run each trip we run at Hubbard's Marina, but currently specialize in the private charters and shorter party boat trips. As I gain experience my ultimate goal is to get on those long range specialty trips I fell in love with as a young angler.
Hope to see you soon around Hubbard's Marina, don't forget... "if you're too busy to go fishing, you're just too darn busy!"
